5A Unit2 A new friend

Period 1 Story time

Step one: Warm up

1.Greet with the students

2.Show first, second and third

3.Four corners

Let the students get to the corners:

T: Please use the following sentence patterns to describe the things in the pictures.

There is... ... ./ There are ... ... .

S: ... ... .

4.Read the new words

Classroom, library, computer room, music room

Purpose: Help lighten the atmosphere. Make them know what we are going to learn today. Also, review what they have learnt in the last unit.

Step two: Presentation

1.Good memory

Teacher ask the students to remember all the things in the pictures. Tell the students we will use the sentence patterns:

Is there a ... ...? Yes, there is./No, there isnt.

Are there any ... ...? Yes, there is./ No, there isnt.

2.Flyswatter

Teacher ask 8 boys and 8girls to come up and slap the right answers.

3.See a picture

Let the students tell who are they.

Purpose: Arouse the students interest by doing some games and make them know the sentence pattern: Is there a ... ...? Yes, there is./No, there isnt. Are there any ... ...? Yes, there is./ No, there isnt.

Step three: Story time

1.Take a guess

Ask the students to guess what will Nancy ask by observing the first picture.

2.Watch and tell

Let the students watch the video and tell what questions does Nancy ask.

3.Answer the questions

4.Read and fill

Read pictures and fill in the blanks in groups.

5.Read and match

Put the words into the right place based on the table.

6.Read and imitate

7.Lets read

Purpose: All the steps help to make the students have a better understanding of the whole text, improve the students ability of listening, reading, and speaking ability. Also, the students may learn some ways to learn by themselves.

Step four: Consolidation

1.Little designer

Let the students design their building and put the room names into the blanks. Show their building in groups by using the following sentence patterns:

Hello! Look!

There is a ... ... . Its on the ... floor.

There are ... ... . They are on the ... floor.

... ...  

2.Exit ticket

Let the students write 3 points they have learnt today, 2points they learnt very well, and 1point they do not know well or 1 question.

Purpose: Let the students review the sentence patterns by giving a presentation. Help the students learn to summarize by themselves by using the exit ticket.

Step five: Homework

Set homework about story time.

Purpose: Set some goals for the students to achieve; tell the students to practice after school.
